A Dark Day for the "Big Three"

In a move that many fans are calling the "Great Purge" of Pakistan cricket, the PCB has officially dropped Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, and Naseem Shah from the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh.

The decision, announced on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, follows a disastrous T20 World Cup campaign where Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals. While Babar has been the face of Pakistan cricket for years, his 2025 ODI strike rate of 77.16 and a lack of intent in the Super Eights have finally forced the selectors to hit the "reset" button.

The "Performance Tax": The PKR 5 Million Fine

It’s not just about losing their spots. In an unprecedented move to ensure accountability, the PCB has reportedly imposed a PKR 5 Million (Rs 50 Lakh) fine on every player involved in the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had previously warned of "major surgery," and these fines are the first step. Unlike previous disciplinary fines, these are purely performance-based, sparking a massive debate on social media: Is it fair to penalize players financially for losing games?

The New Era: Shaheen Stays, Farhan Rises

Despite rumors of a captaincy change, Shaheen Shah Afridi has been retained as the ODI captain. However, the team around him is entirely different.

The man taking Babar's spotlight is Sahibzada Farhan. After breaking Virat Kohli's record for most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition (383 runs), Farhan is now the highest-ranked Pakistani batter. His inclusion in the ODI squad signals a shift toward "Modern White-Ball Cricket"—prioritizing strike rate over averages.

6 New Faces in the Squad

To fill the void left by the veterans, the PCB has called up six uncapped players:

  • Abdul Samad (Middle-order power hitter)

  • Faisal Akram (The mystery chinaman spinner)

  • Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (Wicketkeeper)

  • Maaz Sadaqat, Saad Masood, and Shamyl Hussain.

Pakistan vs. Bangladesh ODI Schedule (Dhaka)

  • 1st ODI: March 11, 2026

  • 2nd ODI: March 13, 2026

  • 3rd ODI: March 15, 2026
